Our Programs
Rebuilding Together Oakland delivers services to Oakland
homeowners during our Rebuilding Days and with our Safe At Home
program.
National Rebuilding Day
Our signature program takes place in April and culminates on
National Rebuilding Day which takes place on April 30, 2011.
In April, Rebuilding Together Oakland organizes and deploys over
2,000 volunteers to over 40 homes and non-profit facilities across
the city of Oakland to repair, revitalize and implement energy
efficiency modifications.
October Block Building
In October, Rebuilding Together Oakland selects a neighborhood
in Oakland to revitalize. We work with a community anchor
organization such as a school or church to identify nearby families
with homes in need of repair and clean up parks and open space to
remove blight. About 500 volunteers supported by sponsor
organizations work hard to make an impact in a few square
blocks.
Safe at Home
Safe at Home is our year-round program to make homes safe and
energy efficient. We install devices and make modifications
in the home to prevent falls, improve accessibility and increase
safety in the home. Common tasks performed during a Safe at
Home visit include installing grab bars, raised toilet seats,
shower seats, hand-held shower heads, non-slip mats, smoke
detectors and fire extinguishers. On occasion, we install
wheelchair ramps.
Energy Efficiency Modifications
Rebuilding Together Oakland and its partners work together to
ensure our homeowners preserve their resources and save money on
utility bills. Every home we visit is encouraged to have an
energy audit performed at no cost to them and get a variety
upgrades implemented in their home. As a result, many
homeowners have had savings of up to 40% on their monthly bill.
