OVERVIEW

Rebuilding Together Oakland (RTO) rehabilitates the homes of low-income elderly and disabled homeowners, so they may continue to live in safety, comfort and independence. RTO also rehabilitates nonprofit facilities that directly serve low-income communities. RTO utilizes the hard work of skilled and unskilled volunteers, and leverages financial and in-kind donations to make these improvements at no cost to the homeowners. RTO is able to produce a high return - each dollar donated is leveraged to produce $3 of added value to the community.

RTO was founded in 1993 as an auxiliary program of the Center for Independent Living. In 1995, the organization was incorporated as Christmas in April Oakland and received its 501 (c)(3) nonprofit status.
