Meet an Outstanding Volunteer!
Peter Szutu
Peter Szutu began volunteering with Rebuilding Together Oakland in 2007. He works with Center for Elders' Independence (CEI), a non-profit that serves seniors who want to live in their homes with caregivers instead of moving into an assisted living facility. CEI often helps their participants apply to Rebuilding Together Oakland, because it allows them to augment their resources and prolong the participants' ability to remain safe in the community.
Peter has acted as the house captain on many projects, as well as serving on the Advisory Council of Rebuilding Together Oakland, and is retiring from CEI this June. He says that he loves building ramps for homeowners, the longer and more challenging the better. "It's always a satisfying feeling to make it work," he says. "Designing and fabricating special design banisters is always fun."
To other House Captains, he says that the best strategy for success is to under-promise and over-deliver.
Outside of his many years of dedicated service to CEI and Rebuilding Together Oakland, Peter enjoys "hiking, photography, woodworking, golf, and sports of all sorts." We are very grateful for all of Peter's work and wish him the best in his next adventures!
